J.Crew - Spring 2014

-

J.Crew is the reigning champ in American fashion; strategically climbing the ladder to where they now sit as the go to retailer for all those who search for the perfect mix of classic yet fashionable everyday wear. The brand has set itself apart from all competing retailers by focusing on quality and design. Taking classic American silhouettes and reconstructing them to become very relevant and forward pieces.

Their Men’s Spring 2014 collection fits in perfectly with what they already do so well. From the first look to the last, each piece is simple and elegant. A great example is the bomber jacket they recreated in suede with which they paired a patchwork indigo denim pant. This creates an easy everyday look, ensuring the man wearing it feels comfortable but also he remains a stand out in the crowd. I especially enjoy the casual suiting items they presented this season. There is nothing like a great day suit you paired with a clean sneaker to make you feel sharp but keep you comfortable. Each look is easy and that is always what I love most. There should be comfort and ease in fashion. Style should seem effortless and J.Crew creates that for their customer time and time again. I will forever be a fan of J.Crew

Dries Van Noten - Spring 2014

-

A great designer is one who is able to truly create wearable art; pieces that stand as artifacts of the creators imagination. There are those who can manipulate and sculpt fabrics into extravagant avant garde numbers and then there are those, like Dries Van Noten, who have the ability to perfectly combine fantasy with practicality. His Spring 2014 collection proves true to that. The first looks have a lounge feel to them with the long silk robes paired with the silk printed shorts and printed tank tops. Even for the more dressed looks like the suits, are cut in lighter fabrics to exude a certain level effortlessness. He as succeeded in the practicality of the collection by darkening the floral prints to add a strong sense of masculinity to what is usually seen as very feminine. I enjoy the fact that all though the prints and each piece is extremely elaborate, the ease to each look allows each man to feel comfortable wearing it.

I want to be this guy - I think I can be this guy. This guy now has a collection where each piece, if taken apart and paired with more basic items like denim for the tops or basic tees and jackets for the floral bottoms, can turn the every day cool kid into a fashion forward style king.

Im a new fan of Dries Van Noten, I cant wait to see what else he brings to the world of Menswear. By far one of my favorite collections this season.

ALTUZARRA - Spring 2014

-

Next season favorite is Altuzarra.

The theme for Joseph Altuzarra’s spring collection was effortlessness and ease. Altuzarra’s clothes were undeniably sexy with thigh high slits and blouses opened to the navel but he successfully maintained a high level of sophistication and simplicity in each look. Even the layered pieces carried a lightness to them, almost as if they were all one piece. I especially liked the first few looks where he used the idea of lounge wear, almost pajama like, to create a very sleek silhouette. The use of silk fabrics, proportions, and fit of each piece spoke true to the confident and sexy girl he is dressing. He seems to design for a world that perfectly combines fetish with real life, making the clothes wearable and the girl wearing them dream like. Altuzarra is beginning to find his own and I am enjoying everything he has created so far, season after season.

BURBERRY PRORSUM - Spring 2014

-

Christopher Baileys collection for Burberry Prorsum is definitely one of my favorites from the Spring 14 RTW Season. He was able to take ”burberry-esque” silhouettes and transform them into very simple and charming looks. He took away the hard edge extragance that is generally associated with Burberry and softened the silhouettes using cashmere coats, Nottingham lace as delicate skirts and dresses, and sheer fabrics as tops; there was even a latex jacket at the end. The soft pastel colors only added more beauty to the quality of the collection. The woman he dressed is an incredibly strong woman; only a strong woman would wear those clothes.

Seductively simple/Seductively unreal.

Ps. I will be following up with some my favorite collections from this season very soon. I also have some menswear catching up to do. I just had to share this one first! (Only reaffirms that I need to either visit or live in the UK)
